The year 2002 has perhaps been one of the most successful ever. Some of the highlights are summarized below :
The seizure of optical discs more than
doubled as compared to 2001 and more than 270 CD Burners were seized.
Police in Delhi, Bangalore, Cochin,
Gurgaon and Chennai have commenced suo motu actions without a formal MPA
complainant.
Operation launched to reduce the
menace of piracy by video parlours in southern India leading to reduction in
this form of piracy.
Virtually every leading cable network
successfully raided including the notorious Vikki Choudhary, President of the
National Cable & Telecommunication Association.
The very first civil injunction order
obtained restraining unauthorized movie rental.
Govt. of India made a party to the
civil proceedings against cable networks for cancellation of licenses of errant
cable networks.
Unprecedented civil raid and seizure
orders obtained against shops in Palika Bazar. NDMC also made a party seeking cancellation of shop leases of
errant shopkeepers.
Authorised officers under the Cable
Act conduct first raids under the provisions of the Act.
Unprecedented public relations exercise
launched including visits to the Hon’ble Home Minister leading to substantial
reduction of pirate activities by the notorious optical disc units in Rajasthan
and Haryana.
For the very first time a joint
anti-piracy initiative by MPA and the Hindi Film Industry involving:
ü signature campaigns (more than 200 prominent film personalities involved). Memorandum
presented to the Hon’ble Home Minister.
ü Seminars / Conferences / Workshop on piracy and enforcement help in Delhi
